 Registration of an account is the first and most important step in the SASSA online application; here is a step-by-step process for Registering a SASSA account online at the SASSA services web portal.

  1.  SASSA website: Go to the SASSA web service portal. Register Account Section: Click “Register A New Account” to access SASSA’s services. To approve South Africa’s Registration Consent, check “I Agree” and click Apply.
  2. Fill out the e-form: Enter your personal information on the “Client Registration” e-form.
    • Type of Citizenship ( Permanent South African resident or Refugee).
    • Type of ID document ( Permanent ID or temporary ID).
    •  Identity Number (You would use your ID number as your login username) Your South African ID.
    • Title (you can choose either Mr., Mrs., or Miss).
    •  Please provide the applicant’s full name and surname.
    • Your active Email address.
    • Password (Select a strong password) and reconfirm it.
    •  Phone Number (South African number).
  3. Register Now: Once you have entered all the necessary details, click on the “Register Me” button to complete the registration process. After registering yourself, you can proceed to apply for SASSA social grants.

Apply Process for SASSA Social Grants online

Here are step-by-step processes for the SASSA online application:

  1. Account login: Enter your credentials and Login to your SASSA account. Navigate to the “Social Grants” section and select the grant type.
  2. Complete the application: Provide all the necessary information on the application form.
  3. SASSA Affidavit: SASSA will generate an affidavit that you can print off and have a commissioner of oaths prepare a certification.
  4.  Bank Payment Form: With your affidavit, sign and submit the Bank Payment Form.
  5.  File Format: You will need to upload your required documents in PDF format. You can check the document required for each grant below.
  6. Submit: After providing all the required documents, your application is complete, and you can now submit it. SASSA will update your application status once it is reviewed.

 Documents Required To Apply For SASSA SRD (R350) Grant

Here is the list of all the documents required for the SASSA Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant. The SRD grant is meant to provide temporary financial relief to individuals and families facing extreme poverty or distress due to various circumstances, such as job loss, illness, or other emergencies.

  • Citizenship of South African.
  • Proof of residence in South Africa
  • Must be 18 years old or above.
  • No other source of income.
  • Proof of unemployment.
  • Household income below a certain threshold which is determine by SASSA mean test.
  • There are no other relief or assistance programs available to the applicant from the government.
  • Provide valid identification documents (e.g., ID card, passport).

Note: For other SASSA grants, the document requirement and eligibility criteria can be different.

SASSA Application Processing Time

 SASSA receives a large number of applications; your application will be processed within 90 days. Approved applicants will get their payments from the day they apply for the grant. Your SASSA application status will be updated by SMS or email. Appeals are available if your application is unfairly denied. Regularly check your application status to get updated.
